Building a Europe That Values Every Age

ESU Strategic Vision and Action Plan 2030

(Proposed for adoption by the ESU Executive Committee, Ciudad Real, 7 November 2025)

We believe in a Europe where seniors play an active role, live with dignity, and contribute to an inclusive society.

As the European Seniors’ Union celebrates 30 years in Ciudad Real, we look forward — shaping a Europe that recognises seniors as a vital force for unity, wisdom, and progress.

Ageing is not a burden — it is our collective strength.

A Changing Europe

Europe’s ageing population is not a crisis, but a transformation that calls for wisdom, solidarity, and shared responsibility.
The ESU works to ensure that this shift leads to a continent where every generation enjoys dignity, security, and a voice.

What Seniors Care About

  • Autonomy and participation: independence, fair income, reliable care, and control over life decisions.

  • Affordable care and housing: investing in seniors means investing in strong communities.

  • Mobility and digital access: technology should empower, not exclude.

  • Intergenerational solidarity: seniors build bridges between generations.

  • Diversity and inclusion: policies must reflect Europe’s multicultural reality.

  • Fighting ageism: every age has dignity, purpose, and beauty.

Our Mission

For three decades, ESU has connected and empowered seniors across Europe.
We foster solidarity, policy influence, and cooperation between generations — building a Europe of peace, prosperity, and care.

Our Core Values

Respect – Fairness – Dignity – Solidarity – Equal Rights
These guide our work and shape our vision for an age-friendly Europe.

Our Strategic Goals for 2030

Voice → Visibility → Growth

  • Strengthen seniors’ representation in political and social life.

  • Advocate for decent pensions, healthcare, and digital inclusion.

  • Build partnerships within the EPP family and European networks.

  • Promote lifelong learning and intergenerational cooperation.

Looking Ahead

At 30, ESU is more committed than ever to shaping Europe’s future.
Together with our members, volunteers, and partners, we will continue to make seniors’ voices heard — and make ageing a source of hope, wisdom, and unity.

Together, we make it happen.
Together, we make ageing a source of hope.
